Ferrari’s Secret F80 XX Just Surfaced in Testing — A Track-Only Hypercar Maranello Has Not Confirmed
A camouflaged Ferrari prototype has now been caught testing twice in just a few months, once at the Portimão circuit in Portugal over the summer, and again more recently during an intensive session at Imola, Ferrari’s home test track outside Maranello. Both sightings show the same unmistakable detail, a massive fixed carbon-fiber rear wing bolted to what is clearly a heavily reworked F80. Maranello has not said a word about the car officially, but the pattern of sightings and a trail of trademark filings point toward something enthusiasts have been expecting for a while, a track-only, client-programme version of Ferrari’s flagship hypercar.
Back in May, Ferrari filed thirteen new trademark applications with Italy’s patent office, several of them tied directly to the F80 family. Names like FXX80, F80XX and FXX H appeared alongside filings covering the 12Cilindri and 296 lineups. None of this guarantees a production car will carry any of these names exactly, Ferrari has a habit of registering far more trademarks than it ever uses, but the overlap with what spy photographers are now capturing on track is hard to ignore.
What the Spy Shots Suggest
If the pattern holds, this would be the latest entry in Ferrari’s XX Programme, the invitation-only client scheme that has previously produced track-only specials like the FXX-K, built for owners who already have a road car and want something sharper, louder and completely unrestricted by street-legal compromises. Reports suggest the new car would sit above the regular F80, itself limited to 799 units and sold out almost immediately after its unveiling, and that a debut could follow the open-top F80 Aperta, likely landing around 2027. The base F80 already produces roughly 1,200 horsepower from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 hybrid setup, so a stripped-out, track-focused variant built purely for lap times is a genuinely exciting prospect, even if Maranello has yet to confirm a single detail.
What It Means for Dubai’s Collector Market
Cars built under Ferrari’s XX Programme rarely reach the open market in any conventional sense, allocations are handled directly by Maranello, usually offered to existing Ferrari collectors with the right history and the right relationship with the factory. That scarcity is exactly what makes them so coveted once they do change hands privately, and Dubai has become one of the most active cities in the world for exactly that kind of transaction. GCC collectors already hold some of the deepest and most diverse Ferrari collections anywhere, and a confirmed F80 XX would only add to the appetite for ultra-limited, track-only Ferraris moving through the region.
At House of Cars Dubai, this is precisely the territory we spend our time in, sourcing, valuing and placing genuinely rare machinery for buyers and sellers across the UAE and wider GCC who are not interested in waiting lists or dealer allocations. Whether it is a client-programme Ferrari, a limited Lamborghini special or a bespoke Rolls-Royce commission, the private market is often the only realistic path to the car, and having the right relationships on the ground in Al Quoz makes that process considerably less painful. As more details on the F80 XX emerge, expect exactly this kind of car, unconfirmed today, nearly impossible to buy tomorrow, to become one of the most asked-about machines among serious collectors in the region.
